On Sunday, February 6th, 2022 at 1 PM Eastern, the Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel (IBSI) will host a special IBSI Online entitled, Defending Israel Against the United Nations. The keynote speaker will be Professor Anne Bayefsky of Human Rights Voices who has been working to expose UN anti-Israel bias since Durban I in 2001. Anne has written several pieces explaining the details of this latest UN assault against the Jewish State, at the heart of which is a UN Human Rights-led Council of Inquiry (COI). The COI is a four-part attack against Israel that seeks to:
Declare that Israel is guilty of apartheid
Declare that Israel's "criminal acts" are to be prosecuted by the Int'l Criminal Court
Declare that Israel is deserving of global BDS
Initiate an arms embargo
This week, The Algemeiner reported that:
A bipartisan group of 42 members of Congress in a Tuesday letter called on Secretary of State Antony Blinken to lead an effort to defund the United Nations’ just-established Commission of Inquiry (COI) on Israel.
Created by the UN Human Rights Council, the COI is a permanent and open-ended entity dedicated solely to investigating alleged Israeli malfeasance in its actions toward the Palestinians. Critics have regarded it as a biased mechanism that is an expression of the UN’s notorious hostility to the Jewish state.
Given the revealed nature and purpose of the Council of Inquiry, an obvious question must be asked. Why is the Biden administration funding a Council of Inquiry against Israel at the United Nations? Another question must be, why is the Biden administration assisting Iran in regaining its UN voting rights just as the COI is underway? As the Associated Press reports:
Using Iranian bank funds freed from American sanctions, South Korea has paid Iran's $18 million in delinquent dues owed to the United Nations, Seoul said Sunday. The step was apparently approved by Washington to restore Tehran's suspended voting rights at the world body.
The South Korean Foreign Ministry said Seoul had paid the sum using Iranian assets frozen in the country after consulting with the United States Treasury — a potential signal of flexibility amid floundering nuclear negotiations.
The UN Human Rights Council isn’t just fixated on demonizing Israel, it also praises despotic regimes like the Ayatollahs of Iran.
This UN-US coordinated attack on Israel is reminiscent of Hanukkah 2017 when the Obama administration took the unprecedented step of refusing to veto UN Security Council Resolution 2334. UNSC 2334 condemned Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria, the heartland of Israel. Like the bipartisan opposition to the Council of Inquiry, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle also condemned UNSC 2334.
Psalm 2 asks the rhetorical question, Why do the nations rage and plot a vain thing? From ancient to modern times, Israel has had to contend with international enemies, often enemies who had banded together to destroy the Jewish nation. For many, including Israel advocates, the elephant in the room is the consistent role the current US government is playing in this international anti-Israel effort. During the entire four years of the Trump administration, there was constant attention drawn to Trump’s antisemitic dog whistles and callous, careless speech when referring (for example) to Jewish voters. That criticism was well-founded, despite Trump’s pro-Israel policies. Yet, many of those same voices who criticized Trump are noticeably silent as Biden essentially aids and abets Israel-haters and terrorists.
Today (Thursday, January 27th) is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Our Jewish friends declare Never Again. The United States has stood as Israel’s greatest ally in echoing Not on Our Watch. If something does not change soon, those words that are supposed to come from America will truly ring hollow.
