Back Where it All Began
Dumisani at the Golan Heights
My first trip to the Golan Heights was 13 years ago — Hanukkah 2012, part of the African-American Pastors Tour with Christians United for Israel (CUFI).
It was after the 1973 Yom Kippur War — fought right here — when Israel miraculously defeated the Soviet-backed Arab powers once again, that the Arab states and the Soviet Union turned to the United Nations to defeat Israel ideologically. They passed the 1975 UN lie “Zionism is a form of Racism” directly assaulting the legacy of the Black civil rights era, and forcing Black American leaders to respond. They did respond, forming Black Americans to Support Israel Committee (BASIC). We didn’t choose the Arab-Israeli conflict. It chose us.
Inspired by BASIC, IBSI was formed in 2013. My book, Zionism & the Black Church, was partially inspired by the events of 1973-75.
